Welcome to the 2021 Council of Urban Boards of Education (CUBE) Annual Conference in Atlanta. We are pleased to be able to gather safely for this in-person event. Over the next three days, you and your school board colleagues from across the country will be networking and sharing strategies to address the unique educational challenges that exist in our nation’s urban centers.

The clinic sessions throughout the conference offer a chance to learn about strategies and best practices from school board members, administrators, and other industry practitioners. Dr. Steve Gallon III, CUBE Steering Committee chair, will deliver the State of Urban Education address at a luncheon on Thursday. Friday’s keynote speaker is Dr. Mae Jemison, physician, engineer, and the first woman of color in the world to go into space. Jemison served six years as a NASA astronaut.

Also on Friday, we will honor the CUBE Annual Award for Urban Excellence winners and the National American Indian and Alaska Native (AIAN) Council of School Board Members Luminous Eagle award winners.

Saturday’s closing luncheon features a CUBE Steering Committee Town Hall: Can Boards Harness the Economic Power of Our Education System to Empower Our Community?

To mitigate the risk of infection during the in-person event, our safety team has planned measures such as contactless registration, physical distancing, face coverings, regular cleaning, designated entrances and exits, and seating limitations in meeting rooms. Attendees will have the option to place a colored sticker on their badge to indicate their comfort level and preferences for interactions.

We will promote good hygiene practices such as frequent handwashing and the use of hand sanitizer.

CUBE Conference Daily will be delivered to your inbox over the three days of the conference. Check the email for updates and information.
